Dying to Get in August....Male Authors all Around!

*At the beginning of the month I post covers of new releases I am just dying to get my hands on and why I am so excited. Inspired by Waiting on Wednesday *

This month's Dying to Get includes a release from last month! Ben Aaronovitch's book released on July 31st, so it's practically an August release anyway. More importantly, I didn't even know about just how awesome a writer Mr. Aaronovitch is until July, when I started the first book in the Peter Grant series.  So without further ado, I present you the two books I am dying to get my hands on this month (well, I've already gotten my hands on one, but still, ). Hah! I just noticed it's all male authors this month!

 July 31st: Whispers Under Ground.

Book 3 in the Peter Grant series. Without a doubt this is one of the most unique and best UF series I have ever read. I love, love, love this series. I adore Peter as a character, I love London as a setting, and the beauty that is the narrative cannot be overstated. I also love just how ordinary Peter is. Also, I really like how well this male author can write women without making them seem cliche or caricatured. I can't say how glad I am that I stumbled upon this series! I don't know what made me put off picking up book 1 for so long!!!
August 14th: The Demigod Diaries

Book 2.5. It's an anthology about Percy Jackson and some of the demigods in mini-adventures after the battle with the Titans in The Last Olympian. I have SUCH tremendous appreciation and respect for the teen? man? boy? demigod? person? Percy has become, from his bewildered beginnings in The Lightning Thief. Percy is so many things, all of them good. He also manages to be all those things without in the least seeming like a Gary Stu or like he's too perfect. Can't wait! Plus I hear tell there's a story of a date with Annabeth in there. Mebbe we'll get some kissing. Squeee!!! But at $9.87 for the kindle price, I am not sure I will be getting this after all :(

Dying to Get in July: Andrea's Story

*At the beginning of the month I post covers of new releases I am just dying to get my hands on and why I am so excited. Inspired by Waiting on Wednesday *

The only book I absolutely must have this month releases on the last day of the month, so it's practically an August release :(

July 31st: Gunmetal Magic.

When Ilona Andrews first announced that the next book book in the Kate Daniels series would be Andrea's story instead of a new adventure with Kate and Curran, I was not very amused. I needed my Kate and Curran fix, dammit! But as the days went by, the idea began to grow on me, and I am fully intrigued now. After reading the first chapter, I am fully invested - I want this book now! I can't wait to explore Andrea's backstory. It is going to be epic. On an aside, it's never gonna happen, but it would be totally awesome if she dumped Raphael and went off into the sunset with Roman!!

Dying to Get in June: Terrible and Tod

*At the beginning of the month I post covers of new releases I am just dying to get my hands on and why I am so excited. *

 I don't even know what I am going to do with myself this month! The two books I am most dying to get my hands on are releasing on the same day!! Ack! What to start first? To make matters worse, I might be working on that day! Dammit!

 June 26 2012: Before I Wake

I am very interested in seeing how Kaylee and Tod deal with the aftermath of the events in If I Die. I could care less about the other characters, when I am not spending time actively hating them. Ms. Vincent has been dropping really juicy, scary hints about the events in this book. I am so sure I will read the final chapter before I actually even begin the book, I don't want to die of a heart-attack halfway through, hehe.

June 26 2012: Chasing Magic

I truly like spending time with Chess and Terrible (most especially Terrible). Ms. Kane has created a wonderful, complicated relationship between the two of them, and I love coming along for the ride. For me the mystery and plot always pales in comparison to the moments Chess and Terrible share together. Oh yes, I also want to see how Chess is going to handle this new development with Lex. Terrible better not die in this war or I'll kill Lex myself!

Dying to Get this Month {May}

*At the beginning of the month I post covers of new releases I am just dying to get my hands on and why I am so excited. *

This month, like last, there are two books I have been waiting on for months and months and months! They are releasing later in the month though, drat the luck!

  May 22nd: Shadow Bound.

Rachel Vincent's Unbound series is set in one of the most unique UF/PNR worlds I have ever come across. But as usual, her characters drive me batty. I swear I could have a drinking game with the characters and their shenanigans - and I'd end up plum drunk! Shadow Bound will tell Kori's story. I admit, though, that my thoughts are with Cam and Liv. I want to see how they are faring. So I will be waiting with bated breath!

May 31st: Tangle of Need

I just know this novel will work for me, I know it! I get to hang out with the SnowDancers, whom I adore, so it's going to be fun! Riaz, the male lead, grew on me, but we still don't know much about him. I know even less about Adria. So although I am interested in the main couple, I'm more excited to see all the people in the Den. And Hawke! I get to spend some time with my favorite changeling wolf! May 2th can't come fast enough!!

Dying to Get this Month {April}

*At the beginning of the month I post covers of new releases I am just dying to get my hands on and why I am so excited.

I have only a handful of favorite authors - less than 10, I think - and most series are merely okay for me, so there are not many books I just absolutely have to have as soon as they're released.*

April 3rd: The Shape of Desire.

 I am soooo jazzed up about this book! It looks as if this one is a departure for Ms. Shinn. All of her other books have been set in fantasy worlds; Shape is set in the real world, in modern-day mid-western America. It is also about shapeshifters (woohoo!) and I am excited to see what she will do with it. Her take on shapeshifters seems unique -they spend more time in their animal forms than as humans, and they seem to be able to take on any shape they want - cats, dogs, pigs, hens, cows, etc - instead of the genre-staples tigers and bears and wolves and lions and ligons, hehe. The first chapter is available on her website, and it is fantastic. Can't wait!

April 3rd: The Dukes Perfect Wife.

 So erm, this one is kinda weird. It is the fourth book in the Highland Pleasures series. I have only read the first book, which deals with lord Ian Mackenzie and his madness Everyone and their mama loved this book, but I was glaringly underwhelmed. The only character that really interested me was the oldest, Hart Mackenzie.  I knew I had to read his book as soon as it came out. And here it is this month! I am still debating whether to buy it or wait for the library to acquire it. Either way, it will be read by the end of the month in any case :).

And that's it for the month of April. Any thoughts? Or new releases you are looking forward to? Let me know in the comments!!
